    Looking for sponsors in Addis

Looking for sponsors in Addis

Ethiopia Ethiopia

In Addis Ababa I got sponsors, one of them was the Hilton hotel, were I could stay free. It’s unbelievable, but every hard stretch of my travel is followed by moments of pleasure. Sometimes I think that everything confabulates so that, in the right moment, things are a little easier.

Ethiopia is one of the most ancient states of Africa and the entire world. Axum and its surroundings, in the north of the country, was the place where Jewish people settled, they came from the Middle East through the Nile River and from the Arabic Peninsula.

Mursi women have a particular way of decorating themselves, deforming their natural appearance. By tradition, they made a cut in the lower lip of the little girls and they put a clay plate inside which will be enlarged till the moment the girls get married.

The North of Kenya is an area of conflicts with long uninhabited distances and roads in very bad conditions, where there are strongly armed bandits. Many times, they intercept vehicles and robbed them.

I waked up with a torch pointing at my face and two teenagers telling me: “Money, money!”. I didn’t understand what was happening, one of them shook a machete while he took a stocking off his head, and the other threatened me with something that looked like a sword.

During my stay in Kampala I got a sponsor. Then I cycled to the border of Congo, where I visit a couple of refugee camps and a family of Pygmies, who escaped from the conflicts of their country.

Biking on way up I arrived in Nairobi, an enormous city that is 1920 m upon the sea level. Its size astonished me and I was feared at first. There were too many vehicles and a lot of people walking around like ants, a rhythm that only big cities have.

Near the Olduvai Gorge and to 1.000 meters of altitude it is the salted lake Eyasi. To only 10 kilometers of their waters, in a too hot and dry area, one of the most primitive tribes in the country inhabits: the Hadzabe

I was told the Masais were antisocial and dangerous, but meeting them allowed me to break that stupid prejudice and start a nice friendship. They even offered me some milk with blood!!

Zanzibar is an almost perfect island. As soon as I arrived there I realized this place is only to rest. There you can find everything ...and even something else.

We met today in Toronto. I saw your video. Your persistence and focus are admirable and deserve respect. You are an inspiration and an example what can be achieved and overcome once we put our mind and heart to it. I hope you connect again with your Clara. Many regards, Dragana (from Yugoslavia, now living in Toronto)

I have to say that I am really impressed! It really is of professional quality but what makes it excellent is that it keeps just a little homemade touch that makes it even more real and touching. The fact that it spans such a long period of time makes it really original as one quickly realizes that it is not only a bike trip DVD but the story of a major part of your life, with their ups and downs, as we can see you change physically and emotionally through time. I also think the video has the perfect balance of information and emotion. I have to say that I shed a tear. So I raise my hat to you. You are incredibly strong! I wish you the best of luck! Jean - Canada
