I started cycling when I lived in Maceió, while still being a tourist guide in the state of Alagoas, Brazil. After a couple of trips and with just 124 miles of road experience, I made the decision of going around the world by bicycle. It was a hasty decision, I had no experience at all. It took me 3 and a half months to pedal back to Buenos Aires. There I started organizing my great journey, and out of the hundred companies that I contacted, only two agreed to be my sponsors. For me, that was enough to start.
I planned to go around the world by bicycle in two and a half years. That plan was hastily made too. When I started the great journey through South Africa, week after week I thought to myself, “How am I going to achieve this?”.
That is how the “Around the World by Bicycle” project was born and, over 16 years, it made me pedal more than 100.000 miles across all continents. Yes, my friends, I am a lucky person. Perseverance and fate, as I call it, allowed me to discover the world and to meet people on every corner of the planet.
